About Us
The Vale Youth Service provides informal and non-formal opportunities to young people aged 11-25 across the Vale of Glamorgan to support them in achieving their full potential. We provide safe environments for young people to enjoy themselves and meet others; feel valued; access information and support; and learn new skills.
As part of the STRIVE targeted team, you will be supporting young people aged 16-25 who are at risk of becoming not in education, employment or training (NEET) or homeless.

About The Role
Hours of Work / Working Pattern
- 23 hours per week
- The postholder will be required to work across the Youth Employment Hub's core delivery days, including a full day on Wednesday and half-day provision on Monday and Friday.
- Remaining contracted hours will support 1:1 interventions, outreach, preparation and delivery of activities, case recording, follow-up work and engagement with partner organisations.

Main Place of Work
- YMCA Barry, with some working from the Civic Offices, Barry, and travel to community locations across the Vale of Glamorgan as required.
Temporary Reason
- Grant-funded
You will work as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service within the Youth Employment Hub, supporting young people aged 16–25 who are unemployed, economically inactive, NEET or experiencing barriers to employment, education or training.
Using a relationship-based youth work approach, you will provide 1:1 and group support to help young people identify and overcome barriers, develop personalised action plans, build confidence and employability skills, and progress towards employment, apprenticeships, education, training, volunteering or work experience.
Working alongside Jobcentre Plus Youth Work Coaches and Hub partners, you will connect young people with appropriate support around employment, skills, housing, wellbeing and financial capability. You will also contribute to practical and accredited activities, maintain accurate records and monitor young people's progress and outcomes.
About You
You will need:
- Experience of working directly with young people in a variety of settings.
- A recognised qualification in Youth and Community Work at Level 3 or above.
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) as a Youth Support Worker or Youth Worker.
- Experience of providing 1:1 and/or group-based support to young people.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues and barriers that can affect young people's progression into employment, education and training.
- The ability to build positive, professional and non-judgemental relationships with young people, including those who may be disengaged from services or experiencing multiple barriers.
- Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating youth work interventions and activities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- The ability to support young people to identify goals, develop action plans and work towards positive outcomes.
- The ability to work effectively with partner organisations and other professionals within a multi-agency environment.
- Good organisational, communication and ICT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and monitor young people's progress and outcomes.
- The ability to plan, deliver, supervise and evaluate a balanced programme of activities that supports young people's personal, social, educational and employability development.
