About the Role
Youth Justice Practitioners work to reduce offending by young people, collaborating closely with family, schools, and other key agencies to address the factors leading to offending. They represent the Youth Justice Service at relevant multiagency forums to secure better outcomes for young people.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Qualified and registered Social Work England Social Worker or hold a professionally accredited qualification in Probation Studies.
- Experience of working with children/young people or young adults with complex needs in a criminal justice setting.
- Excellent communication skills and IT literate, ensuring high-quality recording on YJS case management system.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing demands, and demonstrate awareness of own strengths and areas for development with a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Ability to challenge young people, their attitudes, and behaviors in an appropriate and positive manner and a commitment to working in partnership with young people, their parents/carers, and others involved in the young person's life.
- Adept at working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and across organizational boundaries.

Requirements
- The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area, including traveling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings, and being able to do so in an emergency. A driving license and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
- As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC), should your role require a DBS check, you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorized parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription, and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained. For further information on the DBS update service, please go to DBS update service.
