Youth Mentor / Youth Worker – Beam Park
£18 per hour | Part-time | Beam Park, Rainham
About YouThrive
YouThrive is a community organisation working with young people to create safe, positive spaces where they can connect, take part, build confidence and have someone to talk to. We are looking for a motivated and approachable Youth Mentor / Youth Worker to join our team delivering our new youth programme in Beam Park. The programme combines sport, games, food, workshops, wellbeing activities and informal mentoring, giving young people aged 10–17 somewhere positive to spend their time and access trusted adults.
The Role
You will help deliver two weekly youth sessions, creating a relaxed, inclusive and safe environment where young people can get involved, build relationships and have fun. Activities may include:
- Indoor activities
- Table tennis
- Team games and quizzes
- Group challenges
- Workshops around issues affecting young people
- Informal mentoring and one-to-one conversations
- Wellbeing and confidence-building activities
- Free food and snacks
- Outdoor activities
- Football
- Basketball
- Boxing
- Martial arts
- Team sports and games
You won't simply be standing on the sidelines. We want mentors who are hands-on, energetic and willing to get involved.
A key part of the role will be building positive relationships with young people and becoming a trusted, consistent adult presence. This could mean encouraging a young person to join an activity, helping manage a disagreement, listening when something is bothering them, or simply providing a positive space to spend time with others.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, respectful relationships with young people aged 10–17.
- Support the delivery of sports, games, workshops and youth activities.
- Encourage participation and help young people feel welcome and included.
- Provide informal mentoring and appropriate support.
- Act as a positive role model and promote positive decision-making.
- Help create a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.
- Support young people who may be reluctant to engage or need additional encouragement.
- Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow YouThrive's safeguarding procedures.
- Manage challenging behaviour calmly and appropriately.
- Support attendance and basic monitoring of engagement.
- Work positively with the wider YouThrive team.
- Help with setting up, refreshments and packing away.

Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is good with young people first and foremost. You might already be a youth worker, mentor, sports coach, community worker or teaching assistant, or have developed relevant experience through volunteering, community work or coaching.
You should be:
- Approachable, friendly and able to build trust with young people.
- Confident communicating with teenagers and younger adolescents.
- Patient, calm and able to deal with challenging situations.
- Energetic and willing to get involved in activities.
- Reliable and consistent.
- Comfortable maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Passionate about helping young people make positive choices.
- Committed to safeguarding and creating a safe environment.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly welcome:
- Youth work or mentoring
- Sports coaching
- Football, basketball, boxing or martial arts
- Community engagement
- Working with young people at risk of disengagement
- Delivering workshops or group activities
- Safeguarding
- Supporting young people's wellbeing

We're looking for someone who can join a game of football, sit down for a conversation with a young person who needs to talk, help run a workshop and contribute to creating a welcoming environment for everyone.
Hours & Pay
£18 per hour The role will involve two sessions per week, approximately 2.5 hours per session, alongside reasonable preparation, setup/pack-down and team responsibilities as required. The programme is based in Beam Park, Rainham.

YouThrive is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to complete appropriate safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS check, and follow YouThrive's safeguarding policies and procedures.
