Zero-X Engineering CAD and AI (designing the reactor core) — Waste Conversion Technologies, Zero-X — Canggu, Bali

Waste Conversion Technologies · Zero-X · On-site, Canggu, Bali · 4–6 months · Melbourne engineering track after

What does it take to build an AI that designs, simulates, and draws the reactor core of a waste gasification plant — and hands a fabricator a file no human had to redraw?

We are far from that, but that is the goal. The bigger one: AI that helps us deliver solutions turning waste into clean power and high-quality gas. This is a Zero-X Engineering CAD and AI internship on Waste Conversion Technologies at Zero-X, a gasification-engineering company named to Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies, Energy, 2018; funded by Projekträger Jülich (PTJ), the German federal research agency; with a PhD track across multiple universities including TU Munich, the Fraunhofer Institute, and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). We just finished managing project Cometha ('Waste to Methane') for the City of Paris. Real execution on a live system — the proof employers hire on. Everyone has a degree. Almost nobody has proof.

What you build

Not a task list. The thing you build.

  • You build the reactor core CAD model from the current waste gasification component layout — a 3D part tree and drawing set.
  • You work on the generative CAD pipeline that converts layout constraints into the part tree and drawing set.
  • The simulation pass is on your watch: checking the reactor core geometry against the operating conditions of the first container-based waste gasification unit.
  • We are currently manufacturing that unit. Tar reforming, gas conversion, and gas upgrades to methane or hydrogen are still open topics. Your work fits there.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The bar

  • A CAD model or simulation completed outside coursework of a key component, with the failure mode named.
  • A drawing set another person can send to a manufacturer without you in the room.
  • You have driven an AI design tool far enough to catch where it went wrong, and corrected the output by hand.
  • You work until the geometry and the drawing set agree.

Who this is for

Creative changemakers with a degree in engineering, physics, or data analytics who understand that AI is here now, and that most university graduates have barely scratched the surface of what is possible today — and tomorrow. In two years, you do not want to look back and say you only read about it. You work until the geometry closes and the drawing set is clean.

Where you do it — and why here

Thirty years building companies — New York, London, Tokyo, the Valley — and then it stopped mattering where the work happened. So the program runs on-site in Bali. Core hours are 11 to 5. Monday reset, Friday ship — send what you made. Everything you built last week is worthless, and that is the freedom: you are not married to it. One cohort, on-site, the full phase — not remote. The campus is 4,000 sqm, and the people who run the companies are on it every day. A modern company costs twelve people and a toolchain — so being wrong six times a year is part of how the work gets done. What this location buys is attention, not a view.

What happens after

Seventeen interns have moved into full-time roles across our companies — Bali, Spain, Germany. From here the path runs to an engineering seat at Energaia Institute in Melbourne, beside our Monash development partner. Earned, not guaranteed; the role, visa, and pay are agreed before you commit, never after.

Terms

  • Unpaid under Indonesian law.
  • A room is available on campus — rent paid by you.
  • Epic Solutions PT hosts the on-site program and assists with the C22B internship visa process; the visa fee is yours.
  • Daily lunch on us.
  • Starting September.

Questions about the fit or the timeline? Tell us — we'll talk you through how the program actually runs.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent — proof you can finish something.
  • Not what you know, but how fast you learn — you move between domains and stay calm when the map goes useless.
  • Something you built that nobody asked for.
  • AI is the stack, not hand-written code — Claude Code, Hermes, Codex; the skill is driving them and catching what they get wrong.
  • On-site in Bali, the full phase.

How to apply

Apply via the LinkedIn application field. Submit your CV and the repository.

Closing

A finished CV was never the point. What counts is a thing you've built and the drive to build the next one. That is who we are looking for.
