Purpose of the role
World Zombie Day is looking for a charismatic, highly visible Zombie Mascot to lead the crowd, set the tone, and help participants feel part of something memorable.
You will be at the front of the parade in an eye-catching zombie costume or mascot-style presentation. You will motivate participants, repeat key instructions, help maintain momentum, and act as a friendly information point alongside the operations team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the parade and carry the zombie flag from the front of the group
- Welcome participants and build excitement before departure.
- Help communicate key rules: stay with the group, follow stewards’ directions, respect the public, do not block exits or crossings, and follow route instructions.
- Encourage participants to move forward when instructed and help prevent the front of the parade from stalling.
- Direct people towards base camp, registration, the route, toilets, key meeting points as appropriate.
- Work closely with the Head Steward to repeat operational instructions in an engaging, in-character way.
- Stay approachable, visible, and calm throughout the event.
- Participate in photographs or short social clips where operationally appropriate

Essential experience
- Confident performer, host, mascot, entertainer, presenter, street performer, or experienced public-facing event worker.
- Strong crowd engagement skills.
- Comfortable wearing a costume and remaining visible/recognisable in a busy public environment.
- Reliable, punctual and able to follow a safety plan.
- Comfortable giving short, clear announcements to a large group.

Desirable
- Experience at parades, festivals, themed events, cosplay events, or public activations.
- A strong zombie costume, character concept, or performance style.
- Basic first-aid awareness.
£200 fixed stipend, freelance event-services contract. This covers event-day role, one route walk-through/briefing, familiarisation with the route, and event rules.
