Endoscopy Practice Development Nurse NHS AfC: Band 7
Requirements
- RN level 1
- BSc in Nursing/ Diploma in Nursing or working towards a degree nursing
- Mentorship Qualification or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate continuing professional development
- Significant and proven clinical skills within endoscopy
- Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and of being proactive in managing change (Desirable)
- NMC registration
- Ability to teach and train in therapeutic procedures
Responsibilities
- Support and development of all staff on the Endoscopy unit
- Working with staff in the procedure rooms and recovery
- Role modelling best practice
- Formal and informal teaching
- Participating in the induction of new staff
- Participating in JAG training requirements for endoscopy nurses
- Supporting the senior nursing team with audit sessions
- Mentoring more junior staff
- Leading and arranging endoscopy bespoke therapeutic nursing courses
- Working with stakeholders and external companies
- Work closely with the Matron, nursing managers, preassessment lead, Quality & Audit Nurse and nurse endoscopist
- Ensure safe day-to-day clinical delivery to our patients
- Provide a clear focus for clinical training across the department
- Undertake key training of all staff
- Planning of induction for new staff and students
- Teach and train on internal endoscopy specific courses
- Regularly review staff competencies and action plan
- Remain up to date with all new endoscopic procedures and equipment
- Work closely with clinicians and industry representatives
- Demonstrate clinical skills and leadership, practical and theoretical skills within the clinical environment
- Commitment to developing junior staff and acting as a role model
- Participate in reflective practice and maintain a personal learning portfolio
- Keep up to date with NMC, relevant specialist, Faculty & Trust guidelines and protocols
- Maintain full conversance with current under and post graduate training curricula and liaise with Head of Nursing and the Executive Nursing Practice Development Team regarding any issues arising from these
- Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and Trust Policies and Procedures
- Ensure own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge
- Work clinically in all allocated wards and departments on a regular planned basis, or in accordance with an identified urgent need, supporting individual nurses in developing their practice
- Produce written accounts of each episode of clinical facilitation, documenting learning achieved and areas for further development
- Demonstrate specialist nursing knowledge in clinical settings and support the advancement of knowledge and skills using approved assessment procedure
- Work effectively as part of the multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging and supporting other health care professionals in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment
- Demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff
- Maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels and from all professions within the care group, ensuring effective communication at all times
- Maintain records of training undertaken by each member of staff
- Facilitate the learning and continuing development of all nursing staff within the department, ensuring that education is responsive to service developments
- Develop and co-ordinate planned educational programmes and opportunities for all nursing staff
- Advise in relation educational opportunities and assist nurses in developing themselves in accordance with their personal development plan and/or appraisal objectives
- Assist the Trust's Drug Programme Co-ordinator in helping Registered Nurses achieve level 1 competency in the King's College Hospital NHS Trust's Administration of Medicines Training Programme
- Support nursing staff in developing clinical competency using the Trust core and clinical competency document as a framework
- Monitor use and completion of these to an agreed level, in accordance with ward requirement
- Create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish
- Support mentors and preceptors in their role, ensuring that learning opportunities are effectively utilised
- Promote research awareness by, disseminating appropriate evidence-based and research findings relevant to the clinical practice area
- Keep the Assistant Director of Nursing (Education and Research) informed of any new nursing research proposals, and on the progress of research studies approved by the Trust R&D and Ethics Committees
- Work closely with HEI staff and the Assistant Director of Nursing (Education and Research) in contributing to the development and review of speciality-related nursing courses, and in the evaluation of relevant courses in order to help inform Education Commissioning
- Work collaboratively with HEIs and other Trust colleagues on Education Quality Reviews in relation to the quality of the clinical learning environment
- Manage own time to ensure balance between clinical and administrative activities
- Produce appropriate educational data or reports requested by management
- Lead in the process of ensuring multi-disciplinary training to meet specific initiatives e.g. achievement of CNST
- Assist in the process of recruitment of nursing staff for the care group and in conjunction with colleagues, identify and implement educational strategies that support retention
- Manage the CPF team and encourage personal development and growth within the team
- Ensure all nursing staff receive a comprehensive and individualised induction and orientation package on commencement of post, including the identification of a named mentor
- Actively participate in quality assurance strategies and audit, including Observations and the Essence of Care
- In conjunction with Senior Nursing colleagues identify and address the educational implications of audit findings and clinical incidents
- Ensure compliance with the Trust's Equality and Diversity Policy, supporting the delivery of the Trusts Race Equality Scheme and the Trust's duty to positively promote race equality and equality of opportunity for disabled people ensuring services are responsive to the needs of equality groups
- Make an active contribution to clinical governance strategies, particularly in relation to producing and/or reviewing nurse-led clinical guidelines
- Be an active member of the Trust’s Practice Development Nurses Forum
- In conjunction senior nursing colleagues provide direction for the Unit and ensure the achievement of identified goals
- Actively participate in maintaining own professional development, identifying own educational and clinical training needs with Line Manager
- Ensure own mandatory training certificates are current
- Participate in reflective practice and maintain a personal learning portfolio
