We are excited to launch our Mencap 2030 strategy with a refreshed focus on working with our communities in Wales and doing all we can to break down the barriers to equality faced by people with a learning disability and their families.
We are also excited to be focusing on building strong connections with the newly elected Senedd and new members of the Welsh Government.
We need to expand our leadership of our External Affairs, Advice, Information and advocacy services and are looking for a person to lead our external affairs team in Mencap Cymru, providing strategic leadership and connections to those who can help us deliver more inclusive communities and greater awareness of and challenges to the barriers people with a learning disability face in Wales today.
The role is 24 hrs (3 days a week - Wednesday to Friday) and will work alongside the existing Head of Information, Advice and Advocacy. You will focus on our influencing priorities and ensure the voices of people with a learning disability are heard by decision makers across Wales.
Requirements
- You will have proven experience in a senior external affairs role.
- Have led a national or UK campaigns or communication team
- Speak Welsh well enough to undertake interviews with Welsh language media, and represent Mencap Cymru at public events such as the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol
- Be a car driver with access to a vehicle
- Have experience managing budgets
- Based at our Abercynon office with flexible working options
