We’re looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our Commercial Energy team at Southern Water.
This is a niche and exciting opportunity for someone with experience or strong interest in energy procurement, contracts, and regulated environments to build their expertise within a critical and evolving area of the business.
In this role, you’ll support and lead the procurement and management of energy-related contracts, ensuring compliance with procurement regulations (UCR 2016 / PA23) and Southern Water governance. You’ll work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders, helping to manage risk in a volatile energy market while supporting the delivery of our strategic energy objectives.
This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in procurement or energy, with exposure to tendering, contract lifecycle management, supplier relationships, and energy market dynamics, including hedging and price risk.
Responsibilities
- Managing the full lifecycle of energy-related contracts, including planning, renewals, extensions, and contractual obligations
- Leading and supporting the procurement of energy contracts, ensuring compliance with Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016 and the Procurement Act 2023
- Running and supporting tender processes, from preparation through to contract award
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, monitoring performance and service level agreements (SLA)
- Supporting governance and assurance processes across energy procurement activity
- Monitoring developments in the energy market, including pricing, risk, hedging strategies and regulatory change
- Processing energy-related commercial activities such as invoicing, price analysis, and contract administration
- Working collaboratively with all stakeholders across the business to deliver best-value outcomes
Requirements
- Essential
- Either: Experience in within energy sector
- Or: Knowledge of, or experience working within, a regulated procurement environment (e.g. Utilities Contract Regulations 2016 / Procurement Act/ PA23)
- Experience managing or supporting supplier relationships
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Desirable
- Experience running or supporting tenders
- Knowledge of the energy market, including pricing, risk or hedging
- Experience reviewing or drafting commercial contracts
- Working towards, or interest in, a professional qualification such as CIPS or a relevant energy qualification
