Job Title: Peripatetic Teacher – Horizon Alternative Learning Pathway (HALP)

At Horizon Care and Education, we’re looking for compassionate, inspiring, dependable, and collaborative professionals to join our Alternative Learning Pathway (HALP) team.

Due to our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a peripatetic teacher to become part of the Woodbury School, Wolverhampton team.

The Team & Our Mission

Horizon Alternative Learning Pathway (HALP) supports young people aged 8–25 for whom traditional school environments are not suitable. We specialise in personalised, short-to-medium term learning programmes, combining:

  • Direct home-based tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Online learning

You’ll work across non-school settings, delivering 1-to-1 education, building trusting and supportive relationships with students who have struggled in formal settings. Beside attending meetings, training, and potentially covering lessons/school support.

A critical part of the role involves visiting pupils in their communities for deep, meaningful interaction and educational delivery.

You’ll need to be a regular car owner due to the peripatetic nature of the role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised, engaging 1-to-1 education to students in a variety of non-school settings.
  • Build strong trust-based relationships with young people with emotional or behavioural needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to apply visit schedules and approach their learning planning.
  • Maintain professional engagement with schools, LAs and agencies and track progress clearly and accurately.
  • Provide updates and reports on a regular basis to ensure student investment.
  • Contribute to student-led review and progress meetings.
  • Engage in targeted professional training, reporting, and team meetings.
  • Utilise * eb platform for tracking planning, risk assessments and reports peaking all aspects of young persons’ progress.
  • The opportunity to cover lessons/support in school when needed.
  • Additional flexibility includes:
    • Working directly with young people in their homes and communities.
    • Tailoring lessons depending on specific requirements, including access needs.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

You must hold:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualificating Teacher Learning Status (QTLS).
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience or equivalent training within an inclusive setting.
  • Current Safeguarding & Child Protection working experience and knowledge.
  • US-SAT (Understanding Coercive Control) training.
  • Enhanced DBS check.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrates energy, passion and drive to create engaging learning for learners with SEN/SEMH needs.
  • Practitioners with the ability to innovate, problem-solve, and empower students’ progress.
  • Excels in sound organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • prosity based within a commitment to safeguarding and key safeguarding legislation including inception, response plans and consent.
  • Strong communication skills, confidence, and resilience in balancing vulnerable learners’ needs.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in Alternative Provision or mainstream school.
  • Qualifications or experience in supporting young people with special education needs (SEMH & SEND).
  • Proven ability to work in small group or 1-to-1 settings.
