Job Title: Geoscience Assistant
Merlin is an employee-owned consultancy, and we require a geoscience assistant to support the Merlin technical team. Reporting to the Principal Geologist, the successful candidate would gain broad industry insight from the perspective of a small consultancy. Due to the nature of this role, it will be office based within our Ledbury office to maximise interaction with the technical team and opportunities for personal development. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in geoscience data management, GIS applications, and data analytics within a professional technical environment.
Responsibilities
- General support of Merlin technical staff as required
- Load, validate, and maintain geoscience datasets from a variety of internal and external sources into software including Kingdom 2D3D, Petrel, TerraStation & IC
- Support the management and organisation of geological, geospatial, and environmental data.
- Create, update, and maintain ArcGIS Pro projects, maps, layers, and associated metadata.
- Numerical analysis in Excel
- Collaborate with geoscientists, engineers, and technical specialists to deliver high-quality geoscience products.
- Admin; data listing, preparation of transmittals, arranging couriers
- Geological and admin support to data management division

Requirements
- A geoscience BSc as a minimum but MSc preferred
- Good working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including TEAMS
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity and understanding of essential geoscience data types, such as wells, seismic and remote sensing
- Geological / Geophysical / GIS data loading experience
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS/ArcPro tools
- Clear report writing and presentation skills
- A flexible ‘Can-Do’ attitude and be able to take the initiative
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Confidence speaking to colleagues and clients
- Good organisational skills and effective time management
- Commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD)
- Willingness to work in Ledbury office
We do not seek to compete with a full London package, but the lower cost of living in this part of the world supports a good quality of life. Merlin is based in Ledbury, close to the Malvern Hills, Wye Valley and Cotswolds AONBs and the Forest of Dean, so your short commute will be through beautiful countryside. Worcester, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Hereford are all under an hour away, with larger cities such as Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham within easy reach. Being employee-owned means all Merlin staff are exposed to company decision making and are encouraged to contribute new ideas. Employee Ownership also allows for profit sharing when business is good. Generous 30 days annual paid leave and 10% non-contributory pension after probation. We do not plan to provide relocation assistance for this role.
