Reception 1:1 Learning Support Assistant | Croydon | September 2026

Are you a resilient graduate looking to gain invaluable SEND experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Teaching or Clinical Psychology?

A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Croydon is seeking a compassionate Reception 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a child with underlying SEND needs who is likely to undergo a formal diagnosis for ASC and ADHD. This is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference during a child's earliest years of education.

Job Role | Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception pupil presenting with challenging behaviour.
  • Build a trusting relationship to help the child feel safe, engaged and ready to learn.
  • Use calming, distraction and de-escalation strategies during periods of dysregulation.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, communication and emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and parents to support the child's development.

What you need | Learning Support Assistant

  • A 2:1 or First-Class degree from a leading UK university is desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
  • Calm, patient and resilient, with the confidence to remain positive in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Previous experience working with children, SEND or challenging behaviour is advantageous but not essential.
