1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Bath & North East Somerset

Location: Bath & North East Somerset (BANES) Salary: £93–£110 per day (depending on experience and qualifications) Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Connex Education, in partnership with Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust (BWMAT), is recruiting caring and committed 1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants to support pupils in mainstream primary schools across Bath & North East Somerset.

This opportunity offers flexible supply work, short-term assignments, or long-term placements, enabling you to support children with additional learning, social, emotional, and communication needs. As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils to help them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their personal and academic goals in a supportive and inclusive school environment.

This is a ** rewarding role** that allows you to make a meaningful difference to a child’s educational journey while working within a collaborative and inclusive community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Help pupils access classroom learning and engage fully in school life
  • Assist in implementing individual support plans and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets where applicable
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning
  • Adapt support strategies to meet each pupil’s unique needs
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Collaborate with class teachers, SENDCos, and other professionals to support academic and personal development
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential
  • A patient, caring, and resilient outlook towards supporting young learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and proactive in school environments
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service) or a willingness to obtain one through Connex Education
  • Right to work in the UK
