Role Description
Role Purpose:
The ICP Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for producing safe, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs for network connections up to 11kV in accordance with NERS requirements. The role involves designing substations and underground cable networks, preparing detailed drawings, specifications, and electrical calculations, and conducting desktop site assessments to identify constraints and optimal routing solutions. Working closely with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and network operators, the engineer ensures all designs meet regulatory, legal, and adoption standards while supporting competitive tender submissions. The role also requires maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, and environmental compliance, delivering technically robust and commercially viable solutions aligned with project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design substations and underground cable circuits for network connections up to 11kV in accordance with the National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS).
- Produce General arrangement drawings, Cable routing drawings, Cross-section drawings to support tender submissions and obtain supplier/subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare HV and LV equipment specifications and perform associated electrical calculations.
- Assess client development sites using desktop studies to identify engineering constraints, obstructions, and routing challenges.
- Develop cable schedules, transformer specifications, and HV switchgear specifications to support accurate cost estimation.
- Liaise with internal teams and clients to ensure technically compliant and competitive bid submissions.
- Ensure all engineering designs comply with legal, regulatory, DNO, and IDNO adoption standards.
- Engage professionally with clients, contractors, suppliers, DNOs, and IDNOs to deliver safe, economical, and timely design solutions.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental, and relevant industry standards.

Required Experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering:
- ICP (Independent Connection Provider) projects
- HV/LV electrical infrastructure
- Utility network projects
- EV infrastructure or distributed energy projects
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Contestable works
- NERS accreditation processes
- DNO/IDNO technical standards and specifications (ENWL, SPEN, NPG, NGED)
- Experience in substation and cable design up to 11kV.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in CAD software for electrical design drawings.
- Ability to prepare:
- Load calculations
- Fault level calculations
- Cable sizing calculations
- Voltage drop analysis
- Competent in preparing detailed technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of:
- HV/LV switchgear
- Transformers
- Underground cable systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
