Head of Engineering Remote UK | £120,000 to £140,000 plus discretionary bonus This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a fast growing TechBio scale up where engineering plays a critical role in shaping product, platform, and customer impact. You will take ownership of the engineering function, bringing structure, consistency, and leadership to a highly capable technical team while working closely with executive leadership on long term technical direction. The Company They are a venture backed technology business operating at the intersection of data, AI, and life sciences. Their platform enables global pharmaceutical organisations to make sense of vast amounts of public and proprietary scientific data, uncovering insights that would otherwise remain hidden. With strong funding, a growing customer base, and a clear mission, they are now scaling their technology and teams to meet increasing demand. The Role Take ownership of the engineering function, leading senior engineers across backend, platform, full stack, and data disciplines. Act as the primary engineering leader, allowing the wider technology leadership to focus on data science and machine learning innovation. Set clear standards for engineering best practice, architecture, delivery, and technical decision making. Coordinate and oversee multiple workstreams, ensuring projects are well planned, aligned, and delivered effectively. Stay close to technical design and architecture, providing guidance and challenge without being hands on day to day. Partner with product, data science, and client facing teams to ensure the platform is robust, scalable, and delivering real customer value. Help shape and evolve a strong, collaborative engineering culture within a remote first environment. Your Skills and Experience Strong commercial experience leading engineering teams within product led or platform based technology businesses. Background in backend or full stack engineering with a solid architectural perspective. Experience managing and mentoring senior engineers, with the credibility to lead highly capable technical specialists. Proven ability to bring structure, standards, and consistency to growing engineering teams. Experience owning data-heavy systems. Comfortable operating in a startup or scale up environment with evolving priorities and ambiguity. Confident communicator who can work effectively across technical and non technical stakeholders.
