About the IRC
Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognized multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Graphics Engineer to take a hands-on role in the implementation and optimization of our WebGPU initiative. In this position, you will contribute significantly to the technical direction of WebGPU and its integration into performance-critical projects, especially in the mini-games use cases. Your work will be central to improving performance and demonstrating the potential of WebGPU across a variety of platforms.
As a key technical expert, you will drive the development of high-performance rendering systems and ensure optimal performance through effective solutions to complex challenges. This role offers opportunities for long-term research and development projects, and you’ll be encouraged to propose new ideas and introduce innovative solutions. You will have a direct impact on shaping the future of our projects and advancing our WebGPU technology.

This senior-level position provides a unique blend of technical expertise, collaboration, and autonomy within a dynamic and forward-thinking team.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and optimize WebGPU technology for performance-critical use cases, with a primary focus on mini-games currently.
- Drive project execution: propose research projects, propose solutions to problems, develop solution to solve those problems and ensure that these projects are delivered on time.
- Develop and deliver proof of concept software deliverables for R&D projects.
- Continuously push the boundaries of graphics technology, exploring new ideas and introducing innovative solutions to enhance WebGPU performance and capabilities.
- Conduct performance analysis and implement optimizations for real-time rendering and graphics pipelines.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in WebGPU, Vulkan, and real-time rendering technologies and with the publications on major conference venues and journals.
- Open & communicative approach, keeping stakeholders fully informed and sharing your experience & expertise with peers.
- Availability to travel for technical and scientific conferences, technical exhibitions, meetings with clients and/or other internal teams.
Requirements
- BSc in computer graphics, computer science.
- Excellent C++ coding skills with 3+ years of experience in Game Development/Real-Time rendering.
- Experience of researching in computer graphics and applying academic studies to industrial applications.
- Knowledge and former experience of work with Vulkan is required.
- Knowledge and former experience in Game Engine development is required (Unity experience is highly preferred).
- Excellent programming skills and knowledge of relevant programming languages for R&D (C++, C#, Javascript, GLSL, WGSL).
- Ability to translate technical specifications into working code and solve complex problems with consideration of the end-user requirements.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to communicate complex research findings to stakeholders in an accessible manner.

Skills and Experience – Desired
It is not required for the candidate to possess skills in all of these areas. Some of these may be required for specific roles but they are valuable for all roles:
- MSc in computer graphics, computer science or significant relevant industry experience.
- Experience with WebGPU is highly desirable.
- Experience with 3D game development on desktop and mobile/web platforms.
- Winner of awards or top competitions on computer graphics, computer science, programming.
