2026 UK Industrial Placement Programme
At Mott MacDonald, we believe in nurturing potential and creating space for people to thrive. Our Industrial Placement Programme is designed for curious and proactive students who are ready to explore, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
Whether you're taking a year out from university or stepping into the world of work before pursuing postgraduate study, this is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of our diverse and innovative teams.
What You Can Expect Our placements are as unique as you are. You’ll work alongside graduates, experienced professionals, and fellow students - learning from a variety of perspectives while immersing yourself in our inclusive culture and values. From day one, you’ll be encouraged to contribute to real projects that matter.
We don’t follow a rigid structure - and that’s intentional. We want you to take ownership of your journey. The more you engage, ask questions, and get involved, the more you’ll gain.
The Opportunity:
This placement sits within the Energy sector, Transmission and Distrubution. We are looking for aspiring Civil Engineers to join the team for a 12 month placement, playing a key role in designing and delivering the infrastructure that powers the UK’s transition to Net Zero. With the growing demand for renewable energy, your work will help ensure clean energy reaches homes, businesses, and even international markets through interconnectors to Europe.
Candidate Specification
To join us for an industrial placement you must currently be enrolled on a degree course at university, however, if you are graduating from your current degree in 2026 with no plans to enrol onto a further course then we would encourage you to explore our graduate opportunities.
We’re looking for students who have the following characteristics and are studying towards a Civil/Structural Engineering degree.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
