About the Role
As a Manufacturing Apprentice working in our zirconium production facility, you'll develop the skills and knowledge required to:
- Operate, maintain, and optimise industrial process operations
- Work within production and technical teams
- Support safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing processes
You’ll gain hands-on experience in operating plant equipment, monitoring production, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This apprenticeship fosters practical competence, technical proficiency, and strong health, safety, and environmental awareness, helping to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, and reliable plant performance.
Responsibilities
- Operating and monitoring chemical manufacturing plant equipment in line with standard operating procedures
- Supporting the production of intermediate and finished products while maintaining high quality standards
- Identifying and reporting faults, issues related to quality, safety, or environmental concerns
- Assisting with basic maintenance and equipment checks
- Preparing equipment for maintenance and shutdown activities
- Completing production records and documentation
- Participating in shift handovers and effective team communication
- Supporting continuous improvement activities, such as 5S and Lean

Requirements
We’re looking for motivated candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:
- Strong interest in manufacturing and science (particularly chemistry)
- At least 5 GCSE results at grade 4/C, including Maths, English & Science (or equivalent qualification). A-Level/Level 3 qualifications in Maths, Science, or Engineering are preferred
- Commitment to safety, including strict adherence to work procedures
- Good team players with strong communication skills
- Eager to learn and develop new skills
- Reliable, punctual, and organised
- Problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail

Training & Development
- Qualification: Level 3 Process Industry Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship
- Duration: 2–3 years
- Study: Typically 1 day per week in learning modules (online and occasional in-person sessions)
- Mentoring: On-the-job guidance from experienced mentors
- Experience designed to provide skills, knowledge, and the foundation for a successful career in manufacturing
