About the Role
Prison officers are the backbone of custody services, contributing to public safety by:
- Managing and rehabilitating offenders.
- Mediating conflicts, offering guidance, and fostering positive relationships.
- Maintaining security and operational standards.
- Working across a broad spectrum of roles: counsellor, educator, peacekeeper, and enforcer.

Key Responsibilities
- Security & Order Maintenance: Ensure prison safety, enforce rules, and manage prisoner behaviour.
- Daily Interaction: Officers build rapport and confidentiality with prisoners while enforcing standards.
- Support & Rehabilitation: Facilitate programmes (educational, vocational, and welfare services).
- Critical Decision-Making: Handle crises, conflicts, and medical emergencies.
- Shift Work: Fixed shifts including evenings, weekends, nights, and public holidays (39-hour working week, variable schedules).
Requirements
