About the Role
Job Title: Lecturer (Functional Skills – Maths, English & ICT) Framework: Work-Based Learning Post Type: Maternity Cover (Temporary until 13 June 2027) Location: Primarily Hayes Campus, with travel required to Uxbridge, Harrow, and Richmond campuses as needed Salary: £33,429–£46,618 per annum (inclusive of London weighting) Closing Date: Sunday, 12 July 2026 Reference: 2161
HRUC Apprenticeships and Skills is seeking a Lecturer to deliver Level 1–2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT to Apprentices across diverse frameworks. The role involves supporting learners, contributing to progress reviews, and setting targeted goals. You’ll also be responsible for engaging groups aged 16+, ensuring structured and effective teaching delivery.
Post Overview:
- Temporary maternity cover post, guaranteed until 13 June 2027 (date subjective to maternity leave return)
- Full-time capacity, based at Hayes Campus with mobility to Uxbridge, Harrow, and Richmond
- Key responsibility: Teaching and supporting Functional Skills progression amongst a challenging group of Apprentices
Core Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate Maths, English and ICT Functional Skills courses to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students and/or Apprentices working up to Level 2
- Support learners in meeting their educational and vocational objectives through targeted teaching, mentoring, and career guidance
- Participate in course progress reviews to assess learner progress and set actionable targets
- Ensure learners are motivated, engaged, and supported throughout their learning journey
- Maintain accurate records of participation, attendance, progress reviews and assessment submissions
- Work with tutors to produce assessment and monitoring reports in line with company standards
- Respect confidentiality regarding learner performance and personal details

Requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification in Maths/English/ICT or degree-level education in a relevant subject
- Teaching qualification recognised by the Further Education (FE) sector (e.g., PGCE, Diploma in Education Further Education (DipE), or QTS qualification if applicable) is a preference
Experience & Skills
- Proven ability to successfully deliver Maths, English and ICT Functional Skills in a work-based learning environment
- Experience in engaging and managing mixed ability groups (ESOL + identified at-risk groups) with appropriate challenges
- Strong communication skills, evidenced by the ability to actively involve disenfranchised Adult Learners in learning activities
- Commitment to safeguarding vulnerable students/adults (Essential for regulatory compliance)
- Willingness to travel between campuses (Uxbridge, Harrow, Ramsey, and Richmond)
