The Role: Senior Stoma Nurse

We actively seek candidates with a passion for nursing leadership and a strong alignment with the values and ambitions in our Strategic Plan. The Clinical Education and Training team will provide strong clinical education foundations, including:

  • Dedicated education coordinators
  • Robust induction programmes
  • Preceptorship support
  • Guidance to build on your leadership strengths

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and delivering high-quality stoma care services to diverse patient populations at Western General Hospital.
  • Supporting others through clinical supervision, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the Clinical Education and Training team to integrate knowledge and practices.
  • Contributing to the CHC Patient Flow Project (for which approval is pending).
  • Championing safety, quality improvement, and adherence to accepted standards and national guidance for stoma services.
  • Supporting practice development and learning within the Complex Surgical Care Team and across NHS Lothian.
  • Representing the team in operational discussions to enhance stoma clinical services delivery.
  • Promoting collaboration and upholding the Strategic Plan values within the organisation’s nursing and stoma care communities.

Requirements & Skills

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in stoma care, including roles such as Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nursing Staff grade within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities—whether in education, clinical service design, or in a charge/senior clinical role in complex surgical settings.
  • Ability to lead and contribute effectively to change, leadership and development projects, collaboration in multidisciplinary meetings, and endeavours to improve clinical practice.
  • Understanding of local, national, and NHS-wide stoma strategies to ensure alignment with career development and progress.
  • Successful experience in transforming services based on feedback, recommendations, and data.

Working Conditions & Pay

  • Starting from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change (AFC) full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours.
  • Part-time variants remain pro-rata reduced, with corresponding higher hourly rates to ensure no change in pay.

PVG Scheme Membership Required
