Stores & Procurement Officer
Location: Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology (SMART) Services, SMART Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30 (part-time position)
An opportunity has arisen for a Stores & Procurement Officer within NHS Lothian’s SMART Services. The SMART Centre at Astley Ainslie Hospital provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland. While primarily based here, the successful candidate will also support stores functions at other NHS Lothian sites, including potential secondary placement within the Prosthetics Workshops, Orthotics, or Assistive Technology stores teams.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Maintaining a safe working environment for all colleagues in stores areas, ensuring adherence to NHS Lothian policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Health & Safety regulations.
- Supporting the achievement of service targets and objectives to enhance patient care and journey improvements.
- Assisting with stock management, ordering materials, and ensuring supplies align with clinical needs.
- Providing day-to-day administrative and operational assistance to eight multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
- Liaising across teams to facilitate smooth workflow, including regular rotation between the Prosthetics Workshops or Orthotics/Assistive Technology areas.

Essential Requirements
Candidates should possess:
- Current or prior experience in a stores, warehouse, or supply chain environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills—written and verbal—to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with stock control processes and the ability to operate common reporting and electronic databases.
- Commitment to stricter Health & Safety protocols, including risk assessment and hazard reporting.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working within healthcare procurement or medical supply stores.
- Knowledge of pressure ulcer care, compression therapy hose handling, or similar clinical support roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools.
Additional Notes & Travel
- The incumbent may work routinely at other NHS Lothian sites, requiring regular travel within Lothian.
- The salary will be pro-rata due to the part-time nature of the post.
- PVG Scheme Membership is mandatory; if not applicable, a Disclosure Scotland Check must be completed satisfactorily before commencement.
