Colposcopy Nurse Specialist – Dumfries & Galloway
NHS Dumfries & Galloway invites applications for the position of Colposcopy Nurse Specialist, based in our dynamic Gynaecology Department. This role offers the opportunity to work closely alongside an experienced Consultant Gynaecologist and a Trainee Colposcopy Nurse Specialist in a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

- Job Title: Colposcopy Nurse Specialist
- Location: Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland
- Accreditation Required: Hold accreditation by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP)
As the Colposcopy Nurse Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to deliver an expert nursing service within the Gynaecology Department, ensuring high-quality patient care while maintaining cost-effectiveness in line with departmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver specialist colposcopy services, ensuring all clinical procedures are conducted safely, efficiently, and in line with evidence-based practice.
- Manage a caseload of patients, coordinating timely multi-disciplinary team (MDT) reviews and ensuring patients and their families receive consistent, informed, and compassionate support.
- Provide clinically and emotionally accountable care, including:
- Delivering comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedure education to patients.
- Offering clinical and social support to individuals affected by cervical pathology.
- Offer specialist education, advice, and training to healthcare professionals and other relevant organisations, enhancing knowledge in colposcopy and cervical screening.
- Conduct audit and research activity to continually improve practice, monitor service effectiveness, and promote quality improvement within the specialty.
- Maintain current and accurate records, ensuring compliance with NHS data protection and governance policies.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Accreditation: Must be accredited by the BSCCP.
- Nursing Expertise: Prior experience in gynaecological nursing, cervical screening, or colposcopy is essential.
- Leadership: Ability to guide a multi-disciplinary team and effectively manage caseloads in a demanding clinical setting.
- Patience & Compassion: Strong interpersonal skills to support patients and their families through sensitive and often distressing diagnoses.
- Commitment to CPD: Willingness to participate in continual professional development (CPD) to stay up-to-date with latest guidance.
