Band 6 Specialist Radiographer Cardiovascular Labs
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dedicated and motivated radiographers to join the Cardiovascular Labs team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Role Overview
This is a specialist post covering both Interventional Radiology (IR) and Cardiac Cath Labs within a varied, fast-paced and highly collaborative clinical environment. The department supports a broad range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, working closely with radiologists, cardiologists, nurses, physiologists, anaesthetics, vascular surgery and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
The Cardiovascular Labs provide imaging support for a complex caseload including:
- Diagnostic and interventional coronary artery procedures
- Electrophysiology
- Pacemaker and device work
- Structural heart procedures
- Peripheral vascular intervention
- Biliary intervention
- Dialysis access work
- TACE
- SIRT
- Liver tumour ablation
- Complex aortic endovascular repair
- Emergency work including arterial embolisation and primary percutaneous coronary intervention

The role also includes supporting IR-related procedures and pacemaker insertions in theatre.
Working Environment
The labs offer a distinctive and rewarding working experience within radiology, with a strong sense of team, close MDT working and significant variety across both clinical areas. The successful candidate will join a supportive and experienced radiographer team and will be supported to develop the practical and theoretical knowledge required to work confidently within the Cardiovascular Labs.
The department is moving towards an extended weekday working model to better align radiographer cover with the wider MDT and support delivery of five treatment labs between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Once fully implemented, full time staff will work a four-day extended working pattern, supporting improved service cover and a better work-life balance through fewer working days across the week.
Working Hours
The successful candidates for these two new posts will work a five-day pattern while completing their training and competency development. Afterward, they will transition to a four-day weekly working model.
Participation in the departmental on-call service will be required once appropriate training and competency have been achieved.
Equipment
The Cardiovascular Labs currently provide imaging across GE Innova, GE Allia and Siemens Artis Zee systems, with a Canon Alphenix Sky+ system due to be installed as part of ongoing service development. The team also supports occasional theatre-based imaging using mobile C-arm equipment, including GE OEC Elite and Siemens Alpha systems.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for radiographers who are keen to develop within a specialist area, work well as part of a team, and are committed to providing high-quality patient care. Previous experience in IR and Cardiac Cath Labs would be an advantage, although full training and support will be provided.
