About the Role
Hill View Primary, part of Reach South Academy Trust, is seeking to appoint an experienced Read Write Inc. Assessment Lead to join the school on 1st September 2026.
- Post: RWI Assessment Lead
- Location: Hill View Primary, Hill View Road, Bournemouth, BH10 5BD
- FTE Salary Range: BG4 scale point 6–9; £25,989–£27,254
- Actual Salary Range (Pro Rata for 25 hrs/week): £15,626–£16,387
- Contract Type: Permanent Term time only (39 weeks/year; Monday to Friday, 8.45am–3pm)
** Purpose of the Role**
We seek someone passionate about reading and books who will champion literacy development from early Years to Year 6, ensuring every child becomes a fluent reader. The ** RWI Assessment Lead** will hold accountability for teaching phonics, monitoring progress, and supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality RWI provision.
Key Responsibilities
You will take responsibility for:
- Ensuring comprehensive assessment of phonics progression and intervening where necessary, including organising and delivering training for staff.
- Delivering high-quality phonics lessons for small groups—coaching and modelling good practice across the school.
- Supporting teachers and teaching assistants in implementing the RWI curriculum, including assessing and tailoring phonics interventions.
- Monitoring individual/cohort progress, liaising with class teachers, and ensuring pupils receive targeted support.
- Maintaining accurate records, sharing data with senior leaders, and aligning assessments with the school’s RWI policy.
- Advancing the school’s RWI practice through continuous professional development, with logistical and upskilling support provided as needed.
Teamwork expected: Collaboration with senior leaders, teachers, and support staff to embed a cohesive, evidence-based phonics programme.
Key Person Specifications
You must meet the following criteria:
- Significant experience in delivering Read Write Inc.Q Blake assessment, especially in managing assessments and supporting staff implementation.
- Confidence and independence to manage workloads, liaise with stakeholders, and adapt strategies based on data.
- Strong repertoire in:
- Teaching decodable phonics, including Group Reading sessions.
- Developing phonics screening mechanics and interventions.
- Proven ability to model and mentor colleagues in best practice.
- Experience or empathy working with small groups of children (Year R–6) for parallel phonics/input sessions.
- Ability to:
- Advise on differentiated RWI delivery strategies.
- Liaise proactively with staff to improve outcomes for vulnerable pupils or low-decoders.

Desirable skilss:
- Former teacher status or SEN/light intervention experience in primary phonics recovery/remediation.
- Experience with other structured phonics schemes (e.g., чтобы Beamtree, ‘Letters and Sounds’).
- Restrained, motivational skills with challenging behaviours or reluctant readers.
Provisional Training and Support
- All necessary RWI training/events will be reimbursed/refreshed as needed.
- Staff will receive ongoing coaching, supervision, and quality assurance to sustain excellence.
