Excitement Opportunity for Full-Time Dental Officer – Lochaber Area (Fort William & Mallaig)
NHS Highland Public Dental Service
NHS Highland's Public Dental Service is seeking a full-time Dental Officer to provide essential dental care in two beautiful Lochaber clinics: Fort William and Malaig.
The successful candidate will deliver the full range of General Dental Services to patients who cannot access NHS general dentistry, including those requiring inhalation sedation (experience desirable). Treatments may include routine general care alongside high-need patient groups—clinical experience in this area is highly desirable, alongside a strong General Dental Practice foundation.
About the Role
The Dental Officer must offer comprehensive, inclusive dental care, tailored to diverse patient needs, including anxious patients. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering routine general dental treatments* aligned with NHS Scotland protocols
- Providing care to priority patient groups (children, elderly, patients with disabilities, and restricted mouth opening)
- Ensuring all treatments comply with GDC and local NHS guidelines
- Offering patient-focused care with sensitivity to varied medical and psychological needs
- Demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and effective communication
Key Requirements
- GDC registration as a Dentist and successful listing with NHS Highland (essential)
- Clinical experience with diverse patient groups, including those with complex or challenging behaviours (desirable)
- Experience delivering inhalation sedation (highly desirable)
- Strong interpersonal and administrative skills (confidence in verbal and written communication)
- Able to travel between Fort William and Malaig clinics, with access to a car (driving licence desirable)
- Gambling literacy (some patient groups may have psychological vulnerabilities).
