2nd Line Backup & Storage Engineer
Location - Stevenage
Our purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. As an 2nd Line System Engineer, you will contribute to this by working with new technologies within a team that values the sharing of ideas to build a better service.
Your role will involve the day-to-day support, management, and development of enterprise storage platforms, with responsibility for resolving incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within agreed SLAs and KPIs. You will monitor and manage large-scale NetApp Storage and Cohesity backup environments across three data centre sites, ensuring availability, performance, and resilience. You will be responsible for NAS and SAN administration, including VMware integration, fabric switch configuration, zoning, and troubleshooting. The role includes capacity management and reporting, proactively identifying risks and constraints, and implementing remedial actions where required. Creating work processes and documenting the working outcomes. You will plan and execute storage software and firmware upgrades, ensuring minimal service impact and adherence to customer and Fujitsu standards and change control processes. The position can also involve installing and commissioning new Storage/Backup hardware to be completed and delivered within target timescales. In addition, your role will involve raising and presenting change requests and contributing to continuous service improvement initiatives. Knowledge sharing is also vital to help grow the team’s capability and experience across the estate. You will be working from assigned service desk tickets to Investigate, assess, and resolve customer and system issues in timescales laid down in SLA’s in accordance with defined procedures and adhere to all IS Policy documents, including Change & Release, Configuration, and Security, etc. Maintain the security of the network services in accordance with the Establishment’s Security Operating Orders and current process documentation.

Your Transferable Skills And Experience
- Capable of handling Severity 1 & 2 Incidents and providing RCA information
- Understanding of NetApp Storage Engineer in enterprise-scale environments
- Understanding of NetApp Storage Hardware
- Knowledge of general NAS/SAN principles
- Understanding of VMware integration with NetApp

Hours of work: Our support requirements are Mon-Fri between 0700 & 1900. You will cover 37 hours over the week with a typical day from 0700 – 1530 or 1030 – 1900. There is no weekend working, however overtime may be available, which may include weekends.
