I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About 3Keel And Fera
3Keel is an evidence-led sustainability consultancy, tackling risks and building resilience across supply chains, food systems, and landscapes. We address key sustainability issues and focus on innovations and coalition-building to develop approaches that challenge the status quo. We work with many leading businesses, NGOs and in partnership with academia. 3Keel is recognised by the FT as one of the UK’s leading Managing Consultancies for Sustainability.
In April 2026, 3Keel began an exciting new chapter in the company’s 13-year development, joining Fera Science Ltd. as its advisory wing. 3Keel was acquired by Fera because the 3Keel directors saw the considerable opportunities to combine their proven advisory expertise with the science and unique technical abilities of Fera. 3Keel continues to operate as a distinct business unit within Fera, and as the two organisations collaborate more closely new joint services will be developed and launched.
This is a position in 3Keel, although there will be plenty of exposure to - and opportunities with - the wider Fera business.
What’s in it for you?
- 25 days’ holiday (rising to 29) with the opportunity to buy & sell extra leave.
- Flexible working hours
- Training and development opportunities
- Company-matched pension, life assurance, a cycle2work scheme…and plenty more.
