About the Team

ACCEL Schools is seeking a dedicated 5th–8th Grade Math Teacher for East Academy, located in Cleveland, Ohio. We’re searching for passionate educators who thrive on bringing curriculum to life, fostering student learning, and nurturing social-emotional development in a vibrant classroom.

Established in 2013, East Academy is a public charter school serving Kindergarten–8th grade in South Collinwood. Our students gain access to a rich academic experience, including:

About the Opportunity

At East Academy, you’ll create a thriving math classroom and shape students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Here’s what the role involves:

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Instruction

    • Develop and adapt preliminary lessons throughout the school year
    • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
    • Implement research-based best practices and company-approved curricula
  • Student Support & Management

    • Track and record student progress in writing and/or digital systems
    • Maintain behavioral discipline with empathy and clarity
  • Collaboration & Communication

    • Foster family engagement regarding academic and emotional growth
    • Integrate technology into daily math practice aligns with progress

About You

This role requires a candidate with classroom expertise, cultural empathy, and a commitment to improving equity-centred education. Ideal candidates bring:

  • Licensure & Credentials

    • Active Ohio teaching license for math (5th–8th grades)**
  • Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in education or mathematics
    • Demonstrated success teaching in urban or diverse settings
  • Mindset & Soft Skills

    • Thrives in growth-focused coaching environments (e.g., frequent observations, debriefs, action planning)
    • True to self with students beyond academic deliverables
    • Strong communication skills: professional oral and written reporting
  • Professional Standards

    • Ability to confidentially handle student data and records
    • Flexibility to mentor junior staff
  • Physical & Legal Considerations

    • Ability to supervise students on campus (e.g., cafeteria, playground)
    • Criminal background clearance (federal/fingerprint)
