ACCEL Schools is seeking a passionate 5-8th Grade Social Studies Teacher at East Academy in Cleveland, Ohio. East Academy, founded in 2013, is a public charter school serving K-8 students in the South Collinwood community. About the Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

The Social Studies Teacher at East Academy will:

  • Design and deliver flexible, engaging lesson plans, adapting as needed throughout the school year
  • Implement differentiated instruction to support diverse learning needs
  • Track and maintain student progress records with accuracy and transparency
  • Apply research-based pedagogical strategies in classroom instruction
  • Foster a structured, positive learning environment with-strong behavioural management
  • Align instruction with school-approved curricula, reflecting students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Reinforce school-wide cultural expectations and norms
  • Communicate proactively with families regarding academic and social-emotional progress
  • Integrate technology into daily lessons to enhance student engagement
  • Participate in non-instructional activities (e.g., field trips, clubs) as required
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in planning and teamwork
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support school objectives

About You

We are looking for a collaborator with:

  • A valid, active Ohio teaching license in Social Studies for Grades 5-8
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Comfort and experience in a growth-minded coaching environment, including observations, feedback sessions, action planning, and progress monitoring
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage with students, families, and staff
  • A commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Ability to supervise students across different school settings (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, gym)
  • Eligibility for federal and state criminal background checks
  • Prior experience success in urban educational settings
