[6853] Traffic Officer

About The Job

We are currently recruiting for Traffic Officers, to be based at Milness Outstation, Milnthorpe.

You will provide a customer-focused service through effective management of the strategic road network, working as part of a team. Your responsibilities will include managing road traffic collisions, removal of debris, and other unplanned events.

Our Traffic Officers operate 24/7, 365 days a year, working a 6 days on, 3 days off rotation. This includes:

  • 3 early shifts (6am–2.26pm)
  • 3 late shifts (2pm–10.26pm)
  • 3 rest days (off duty)
  • 3 cover shifts (flexible alignment with any of the above)
  • 3 night shifts (10pm–6.26am)

The salary starts at £29,010 per annum, plus a 25% shift allowance, resulting in a combined salary of up to £36,262.50. After completing an initial 9-month probation period successfully, the salary increases to £30,210, with a combined total of up to £37,762.50.

In this role, you will respond and resolve incidents by:

  • Deploying traffic management in a timely and safe manner
  • Collaborating with colleagues, emergency services, and external responders
  • Contributing proactively as part of a team to meet performance targets
  • Using a range of technologies, including radio and mobile telephony, to relay accurate updates to stakeholders and customers
  • Ensuring personal safety while managing incidents by reporting unsafe conditions
  • Maintaining records of vehicles and equipment

About You

To be considered, you must:

  • Hold a full valid driving licence with no more than three points
  • Live within one hour’s commutable distance of Milnthorpe
  • Have experience of motorway driving
  • Demonstrate knowledge of workplace safety
  • Provide high-quality customer service
  • Be self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working independently
