About the Role

As a Control Room Operator, you’ll be the critical first point of contact for roadside incidents, ensuring swift action, safety, and smooth recovery for drivers, businesses, and communities. You’ll work across West Yorkshire’s key road networks, based at National Highways’ Regional Operations Centre in Wakefield.

Key Responsibilities

  • Real-time traffic monitoring: Use advanced tools such as CCTV cameras, traffic sensors, and real-time data feeds to track live conditions, congestion, and incidents.
  • Incident response: Lead immediate action for accidents, breakdowns, or severe weather—including dispatching teams, coordinating emergency services, and implementing road closures/diversions.
  • Public safety communication: Provide accurate updates to road users via variable message signs, media outlets, and traffic information services.
  • Stakeholder coordination: Collaborate with police, fire services, local authorities, and maintenance crews to manage safety and operational efficiency.
  • Road maintenance & construction: Support scheduled work to minimise disruption while maintaining traffic flow and safety.
  • 24/7 accountability: Operate across all shifts (early mornings, early evenings, nights) with a structured 6-day on, 3-day off roster.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
