This role is for maternity cover within the Breast Screening and Symptomatic Service.
About the Role
The postholder will collaborate with Breast Consultant Radiologists, Advanced Practitioners, mammographers, and assistant practitioners to deliver high-quality patient-centred care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Imaging and reporting for symptomatic and breast screening patients
- Providing specialist clinical opinion and diagnosis
- Performing interventional procedures under ultrasound and stereotactic guidance
- Maintaining the highest standards of courtesy, consideration, and communication with patients, visitors, and colleagues
Main Duties of the Job
- Work alongside senior staff to ensure specialist clinical care in breast imaging
- Conduct and document diagnostic imaging and reporting for both screening and symptomatic patients
- Deliver advanced interventional procedures (e.g., biopsies under ultrasound/sterotactic guidance)
- Provide expert clinical advice to support patient-centred decision-making
- Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in all interactions

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Essential Criteria
- BSc in Radiography
- HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration
- Evidence of postgraduate study (e.g., PG qualifications)
- PG Certificate in Mammography
- Commitment to pursuing a Masters-level qualification in a specialist area
- Extensive post-registration experience in breast screening and symptomatic services
- Proven leadership skills, including conducting appraisals and assessments of mammographers and assistant practitioners
- Demonstrable ongoing continued professional development (CPD)
- Strong patient care skills with a focus on education and support
- Kenntnisse der NHS Cancer Plans und National Service Frameworks (NSFs)

Desirable Criteria
- SCOR (Surgical Careers Occupational Radiographer) Consultant Radiographer accreditation
- Experience in people management, including handling difficult and sensitive issues
