Australia is currently facing a critical labor shortage, prompting the government to develop streamlined immigration processes. One of the most popular pathways for foreign workers is the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482), which allows you to work in Australia legally, regardless of your country of origin.

Whether you're skilled in agriculture, engineering, healthcare, or IT, visa sponsorship jobs are available to individuals of all qualifications in 2024. Types of Employer-Sponsored Work Visas in Australia

Australia offers several employer-sponsored work visas for skilled workers. Here are the primary categories:

Colleges & Universities

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482): This visa allows foreign workers to work in Australia for up to four years. It has two streams:

  • Short-Term Stream: Designed for workers needed for a maximum of two years.
  • Medium-Term Stream: Allows workers to stay for up to four years, with a pathway to permanent residency after meeting certain criteria.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS): This visa is for skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer. It allows for permanent residency.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS): Aimed at skilled workers in regional Australia, this visa supports permanent residency for those nominated by employers in designated regional areas.

Requirements for the Work Visa (Subclass 482)

To apply for a Subclass 482 visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You need to be nominated for a skilled position listed on Australia’s eligible medium and long-term skilled occupation list.
  • You must have at least two years of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a closely related field.
  • If required, you must pass a skills assessment for your occupation.
  • You must meet the English language requirements. This can be achieved by scoring a minimum of:
    • IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with no band below 5.5.
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 62 with no band below 50.
    • TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 79 with no band below 19.
  • You must be in good health and of good character, supported by medical checks and a police clearance report.
  • You should have a genuine intent to work in Australia temporarily.
  • You cannot have breached any laws regarding visa sponsorship.

Additional criteria may apply depending on the specific visa stream, such as the Labour Agreement Stream. Check the Australian Department of Home Affairs website for more details.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
