Job description

Transport Scotland’s Infrastructure Projects Directorate is responsible for the design, assessment, promotion, procurement and construction of major transport infrastructure projects. These include the current Scottish Motorway and Trunk Road Programme (including the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness, A83 Rest and Be Thankful and A96 Dualling). We also have new projects emerging from the second Strategic Transport Projects Review [https://www.transport.gov.scot/our-approach/strategy/strategic-transport-projects-review-2/] (STPR2). The Directorate also leads and advises on procurement and contract management matters for Transport Scotland.

The post will be within the A9 Dualling Team, the Programme for which is progressing at pace with construction contractors underway to dual the sections between Tomatin and Moy and between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig. Procurement for the A9 Dualling: Pitlochry to Killiecrankie is also currently underway and is expected to be awarded later this year. We are also delivering a wide range of advance works packages to help de-risk our programme. It is an exciting time for the team as we deliver the Scottish Government’s A9 Dualling Delivery plan to complete the A9 Dualling between Perth and Inverness by 2035.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
