Academic Director
Academic Director – University of Huddersfield London Campus
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Location: University of Huddersfield – London Campus, Stratford, Greater London
About the Role
Study Group delivers a selection of postgraduate and undergraduate courses for the University of Huddersfield (UoH) at its Business and Technology School in London. This includes pathway programmes to progress into UoH courses, designed to attract a diverse international student body seeking quality education, strong employability opportunities, and world-class teaching.
As the Academic Director, you will provide academic leadership for the Business and Technology School, overseeing the delivery of UoH’s taught courses and Study Group’s pathway programmes. Your key responsibilities include:
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and manage an academic team, ensuring high standards in teaching, learning, and research.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate Teaching and Learning (T&L) Strategies and Research Strategies for the school.
- Ensure compliance with academic regulations, professional body accreditations (AACSB & BCS), and UoH’s Handbook of Quality Assurance.
- Generate and maintain a scholarly research activity portfolio, promoting and documenting high-quality research among academics.
- Monitor student performance and success, driving improvements to enhance outcomes and experience.
- Collaborate with UoH representatives on operational and quality assurance matters.
- Coordinate with partnership managers to align teaching initiatives with institutional strategy.
- Embrace a leading role in continuous improvement, working with the Head of School to meet targets for student success.
- Represent the school as key liaison in partnership boards, committees, and governance meetings.
Key Areas of Focus
1. Strategic Leadership
- Provide inspirational leadership for academic teams, aligning with Study Group’s and UoH’s vision.
- Oversee curriculum planning and academic standards, ensuring alignment with Campus Partenership Development Plan.
- Enhance student experience through proactively responding to feedback and quality data.
- Lead strategic policies for T&L and research roadmaps with UoH partner contacts.
2. Management & Team Leadership
- Manage and develop staff—including direct reports—using Study Group’s Individual Contribution & Development processes.
- Ensure accountability for scholarly output, professional development, and quality standards.
- Recruit and mentor academics who align with the school’s **AACSB/BCS accreditation requirements().
- Manage teaching workloads, resources, and budgets, minimising operational costs and maximising student outcomes.

3. Academic and Operational Delivery
- Ensure effective course delivery following validation documents and course frameworks.
- Lead VLE management and implement policy standards consistent with UoH’s VLE and educational practices.
- Promote innovation in teaching methods, including industry engagement and student employment readiness.
- Address daily operational issues and ensure ACQUICA ARTICA indicators meet strategic goals.
- Interface with Student Experience and Operations Director to align quality processes and support Student Panels & Committees.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Manage accreditation processes, including AACSB and BCS, ensuring ongoing compliance.
- Coordinate annual evaluation reports and quality assessments (QAA reviews) for Study Group and UoH.
- Oversee assessment integrity, handling academic misconduct fairly and transparently.
- Monitor student satisfaction, intervening where necessary to maintain high standards.
5. Partnership Management
- Enhance collaboration with UoH staff to ensure curriculum alignment and high-quality student experience.
- Act as a key representative in UoH studies, fostering mutually beneficial relationships.
- Identify new opportunities for cross-campus program development.
- Implement organisational checks for safeguarding, compliance, and HR policies as required.
About You
We’re searching for a passionate academic leader with a track record of excellence in university settings, particularly within a business school context. Key qualifications include:
Essential Requirements
- Terminal/master’s or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (business, technology, economics, or associated discipline).
- Strong research profile, funded or published at registrar-level (abs recorded at rating 3/4 – national or international recognition).
- Advanced HE Fellowship (or commitment to achieving within 12 months).
- Proven ability in course and academic leadership, managing teams/resourses effectively.
- Teaching experience for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a UK-legacy HE institution.
- Experience designing curated curriculum for quality teaching and performance.
- Direct involvement in professional body accreditations (AACSB, BCS).
- Ability to teach international students, promoting excellence in diverse learning environments.
- Track record of strategic planning in complex education programs.

Desirable Attributes
- Experience in BSc/MSc degree validation, course approval, or curriculum development.
- Knowledge of quality frameworks (such as QAA).
- Skill in managing in multi-campus academic settings or hybrid learning environments.
