Academic Lead for MBBS5 Year 1 – Redeployee Opportunity
Role Summary
This is a replacement post open exclusively to redeployees at City St George’s. The Academic Lead for MBBS5 Year 1 will coordinate, quality assure, and develop the teaching of Year 1 of the MBBS5 programme. Based in the Division of Medical Education (Department of Medicine), this role offers opportunities to shape the MBBS curriculum while supporting student success.

Key Responsibilities
As the Academic Lead for MBBS5 Year 1, your role includes:

Curriculum Coordination:
- Align Year 1 MBBS5 teaching with the needs of Year 4 (MBBS4)
- Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum Development to ensure evidence-based, relevant curricula

Teaching & Quality Assurance:
- Work with module leads to ensure consistent teaching standards
- Chair regular meetings to review and act on student feedback

Administrative Oversight:
- Coordinate timetables, support materials, and virtual learning environments (VLEs) for the MBBS5 programme
- Draft and circulate accurate, timely resources with the administrative team

Student Support:
- Attend and report to MBBS Course Committees and relevant sub-committees (e.g., Medical Assessment Committee)
- Assess Mitigating Circumstances applications, providing remediation where necessary

Teaching Innovation:
- Collaborate with module leads and teaching teams to develop and refine each module
Job Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Strong academic or clinical background in undergraduate medical or biomedical education
- Expertise in:
- Curriculum design
- Quality assurance processes for medical education
- Interest in academic leadership within the MBBS programme
- Experience as a Basic Scientist or Clinician (preferred)
