Academic Mentor - Oxbridge Mentoring

Are you a top university graduate looking to support students in a forward-thinking Secondary School?

Are you passionate about raising attainment, supporting young people academically and inspiring students to aim for top universities in the future?

If so, a fantastic Secondary School based in Newham, East London are looking for Academic Mentors to join them from September 2026.

The school are looking for academically gifted graduates who can support students across KS3 & KS4, helping to raise attainment, build confidence and inspire pupils to aim high academically.

Your Role as an Academic Mentor

Your role as an Academic Mentor will involve supporting students within your subject specialism, delivering targeted intervention and working with pupils in class, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis. You will primarily support within your subject area but may also support across other core subjects where needed.

Additionally, you will act as a positive academic role model, supporting students with study skills, revision strategies, confidence, motivation and future aspirations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who understands top universities, including Russell Group and Oxbridge pathways, and wants to help students develop the ambition and academic habits needed to progress successfully.

Academic Mentor - Oxbridge Mentoring JOB DESCRIPTION

Academic Mentor / Secondary Teaching Assistant

  • Working to support students in your subject specialism
  • Working across KS3 & KS4 with a focus on raising attainment
  • Carrying out GCSE intervention sessions
  • Supporting students in class, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis
  • Supporting students with revision, study skills and academic confidence
  • Acting as a positive role model for high-achieving and aspirational students

Job Details

  • Start Date: September 2026 until July 2027
  • Contract: Full-time and long-term
  • Pay: £110 - £120 per day
  • Location: Newham, East London

Academic Mentor - Oxbridge Mentoring - PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Must have a 1:1 or 2:1 degree from a reputable University
  • Russell Group or top university graduates are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Good A Levels & GCSEs across the board
  • Good understanding of Russell Group Universities and Oxbridge pathways would be desirable
  • Perfect for aspiring teachers looking to gain experience before PGCE, QTS or Salaried Teacher Training
  • Must be confident within your academic ability and subject knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the GCSE curriculum would be desirable
  • You must be able to engage, motivate and support students of all abilities
  • Commitment, resilience and ambition to succeed is key throughout
