Academic Mentor – Oxbridge Mentoring Role

About the Role

A Secondary School based in Newham, East London, is looking for Academic Mentors to join their team from September 2026.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting students from KS3 & KS4 across their subject specialism
  • Delivering targeted academic intervention (including GCSE sessions)
  • Working with pupils in class, small groups, and 1:1 settings
  • Raising attainment while building confidence and inspiring students to aim high

Your duties include:

  • Subject-specific mentoring, helping students deepen their understanding
  • Revison support and study skills strategy coaching
  • 1:1 academic guidance, helping pupils develop resilience and motivation
  • Acting as a positive academic role model—sharing university insights (especially Russell Group & Oxbridge pathways)

This is an ideal role for graduates who:

  • Want to gain teaching experience before training (e.g., before PGCE, QTS, or salaried training)
  • Are passionate about raising academic attainment
  • Want to inspire students to reach their full potential

Responsibilities

Core Tasks

  • Support students with subject-specific learning in your area of expertise
  • Deliver daily intervention sessions (including GCSE support)
  • Work with learners within classrooms, in small groups, and 1:1
  • Equip students with revision techniques and exam preparation strategies
  • Build students’ confidence, resilience, and long-term motivation
  • Lead as a role model, sharing experiences of Oxford/Cambridge and Russell Group universities
  • Help shape students’ future aspirations by embedding academic excellence

Support & Career Progression

  • Opportunity for Salaried Teacher Training (STT) from September 2027 for high-performing mentors
  • Free access to on-going professional development (CPD) and mentoring support

Requirements

Essential Criteria

✔ Must hold a 1st or 2:1 degree from a reputable university (Russell Group/elite graduates preferred) ✔ Hold strong A Levels & GCSEs across the board ✔ Subject knowledge in your expert area ✔ Confidence in explaining complex academic material ✔ Patience & professionalism in engaging diverse student abilities

Desirable Qualities (Strongly Recommended)

🔹 Strong understanding of GCSE revision and exam techniques 🔹 Familiarity with Russell Group & Oxbridge application processes 🔹 Aspiring teachers (ideal for pre-QTS/PGCE experience) 🔹 Mental resilience and ability to motivate students consistently 🔹 Passionate about raising achievement and long-term pupil progression

Job Details

Contract

  • September 2026 start – Full-time, long-term commitment
  • September 2026 to July 2027 ( 싫 * 모든 장 Diagnostics possible

Salary & Location

  • Annex Dag: Start £110 to £120 per day
  • Location: Based in Newham, East London (accessible from St Leonards, Bexhill, and surrounding commuter areas)
