Academic Sales Engineer – COMSOL Multiphysics
This is an exciting opportunity to develop a sales and business career in a fast-growing high-tech software company in central Cambridge. COMSOL is looking for a full-time academic sales engineer to join our team and help drive continued growth of our UK business. The COMSOL Multiphysics® software is used by scientists and engineers worldwide to solve physical problems in their research, design, and development work.
You will be responsible for growing COMSOL’s revenue from both new and existing accounts within a defined territory, for academic institutes and research labs in the UK and Ireland. This challenging role will require you to balance a range of responsibilities with the key focus to identify and develop both new opportunities and existing accounts. You will be part of a sales team that is supported by a talented team of applications and marketing specialists.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to combine your technical and people skills to help our customers understand how the COMSOL product line can assist academics in their research projects and teaching programs. If successful, you will join a close-knit team of sales, marketing and technical specialists that form an important part of this rapidly expanding global company.

- Actively identify, develop and expand the sales of COMSOL Multiphysics software to academic institutes and research labs within the UK & Ireland.
- Proactively identify, engage, and develop new business via leads from conferences, exhibitions, LinkedIn, cold calls and other marketing campaigns.
- Working closely with SDR and marketing team to generate new leads and actively develop new businesses to drive software sales growth.
- Maintain ongoing relationships and grow existing customers through regular phone outreach and the coordination of regular onsite and virtual presentations and workshops.
- Create and deliver presentations with the support of the technical team at public seminars, customer meetings and professional conferences.
- Achieve personal sales quota for the nominated accounts within a defined territory and support the academic sales team to achieve team quota.
- Work closely with other members of the academic sales team and provide support to the UK Sales Manager.
- Manage and qualify all sales opportunities within the CRM, maintaining accurate records to support pipeline progression and sales forecasting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong business awareness and excellent in time management
- Previous sales experience is desirable but not essential.
- Driven, self-motivated and strong negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) software.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Driving licence/Eligible to drive in the UK.
