Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Location: University of Huddersfield – London Campus, Stratford, Greater London Salary: up to £32,000 per annum.
To deliver specialist academic skills coaching and personalised development support that empowers students to achieve their academic goals and realise their full potential. The role will support students in developing effective study practices, academic literacy, critical thinking, self-management, and independent learning skills, enabling them to overcome barriers to success and thrive within the university environment. This role is central to the School’s approach to promoting the highest standards of Academic Integrity and supporting a diverse cohort of international students to understand and embody these standards in their practice. By providing evidence-informed interventions and working in partnership with the academic team and student support services, the postholder will contribute significantly to student success, engagement, retention, progression, degree attainment, graduate employability, and institutional performance objectives.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Student Academic Development
- Provide one-to-one academic skills coaching to students, supporting the development of academic confidence, resilience, and effective learning strategies
- Assist students in developing academic literacy skills, including:
- Academic reading and note-taking
- Critical analysis and evaluation
- Academic writing and structuring assignments
- Research skills and digital skills
- Referencing and academic integrity
- Reflective and independent learning
- Support students in developing effective study habits, time management, organisation, goal setting, and self-regulation skills
- Identify barriers to academic success and develop personalised action plans to support student achievement
- Provide tailored support for students at risk of academic underperformance, withdrawal, or disengagement
Workshop and Resource Development
- Design, develop, and deliver workshops, webinars, and group sessions on academic skills and learning development topics
- Create engaging and accessible learning resources, guidance materials, and digital content to support student learning
- Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of academic skills provision, ensuring services remain responsive to student needs
- Work collaboratively with the academic team on the integration of Academic Skills in the wider curriculum supporting with the design and delivery

Student Success and Retention
- Monitor student engagement with academic skills support and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving student retention, progression, and completion
- Use student data and feedback to identify trends, evaluate interventions, and inform continuous improvement activities
- Proactively engage with students identified through institutional processes as requiring additional academic support
- Support on the development and delivery of needs analysis tools to ensure support is responsive to individual student needs and strengths
Partnership Working
- Collaborate with academic staff, module leaders, and student experience colleagues to promote student success and academic development
- Work closely with wellbeing, careers, and student experience teams to ensure coordinated and holistic support for students
- Contribute to cross-institutional student success initiatives, projects, and working groups
Quality and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and support provided using study group systems and reporting mechanisms
- Ensure all activities comply with university and study group policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements
- Maintain knowledge of current developments and best practice in academic skills coaching, learning development, and higher education pedagogy
- Participate in professional development activities and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

- Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post as reasonably required

ABOUT YOU
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Relevant qualification in education, learning development, coaching, teaching, or a related discipline
- DELTA, DipTESOL, MA TESOL, MA Applied Linguistics, PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification
- Postgraduate qualification in Education, Learning Development, Coaching, Psychology, or a related field
- Working in English for Academic Purposes or related environment
- Working in education contexts including Higher Education and with International Students
- Working in student support services
