The Opportunity

As an Academy Penetration Tester Consultant, you’ll join Bridewell’s 18-month structured Academy programme, bridging the gap between newcomers and qualified offensive security professionals.

This programme is for individuals with a passion for ethical hacking, technical problem-solving, and reducing cyber risk. You’ll develop penetration testing skills alongside experienced consultants, gaining hands-on experience while earning key industry certifications and qualifications throughout a clear career progression.

Pathway Overview

Your development will follow three key phases across 18 months, with structured training, mentorship, and exposure to real-world client engagements:

1. Foundation Phase (Months 0–6)

  • Build penetration testing methodology and technical security foundations.
  • Grow consultancy, client-facing, and reporting skills.
  • Key milestones: Cyber Scheme Foundation Level (CSFL), UK Cyber Security Council Associate Professional Title, and Trainee Cyber Essentials Assessor (TCEA) pathway.
  • Focus on methodology adherence, structured learning, shadowing experienced consultants, and understanding Bridewell’s safe, ethical scheduling.

2. Proficiency Phase (Months 7–12)

  • Strengthen tactical testing and client-centred reporting.
  • Deepen expertise in web application testing, vulnerability reporting, and remediation advice.
  • Key milestones: Burp Suite Certified Practitioner (BSCP), Honeycomb Core Consulting Skills training.

3. Practitioner Phase (Months 13–18)

  • Progress towards ** recognised industry status** with learning and mentorship.
  • Priority areas: Cyber Scheme CSTM Training, Cyber Scheme Team Member (CSTM), NCSC CHECK Team Member (CTM), Cyber Essentials Plus assessment, and PraCSP certification.
  • By month 18, you’ll deliver impactful work with minimal oversight, blending technical skillset and consulting confidence.

Support

  • Dedicated one-to-one mentor for guidance and career development.
  • Hands-on training via Hack The Box VIP+ and TCM Security Academy.
  • Real-world experience in client projects under guidance.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for contributing to penetration testing engagements with oversight from senior consultants. Daily activities include:

  • Supporting client-facing work: Kick-off preparations, connectivity checks, and liaising with clients.
  • Following agreed rules of engagement, legal boundaries, and Bridewell’s quality standards.
  • Identifying and validating vulnerabilities with evidence, assessing risks, and aiding remediation.
  • Documenting findings in clear, structured reports tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Actively escalating risks, blockers, or scope concerns.
  • Communicating professionally at meetings, updates, and written correspondence.
  • Adapting to feedback from mentors, peers, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Balancing time between client delivery, training, and personal development.

Entry Points & Requirements

Full-time programme – No prior work experience required. If you’re eager to learn, have strong problem-solving skills, and are passionate about cyber security, this opportunity is yours.

Direct Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 4/C in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).

Preferred (desired but not mandatory)

  • Degree in Cyber Security, or equivalent qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Apprenticeship).
  • Cyber-relevant course/bootcamp completion (will enhance application).
