The Role

The Academy Transport Officer (Casual) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe transportation of Academy players, staff, and equipment. Reporting to the Academy Transport Lead, this position involves daily coordination of transport logistics, vehicle maintenance, and driver supervision to support the efficient operation of the Academy.

The Academy Transport Officer (Casual) will be required to undertake driving duties.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Transport Coordination

  • Contribute to the driving pool.
  • Assist in coordinating daily transportation schedules for Academy players.
  • Ensure timely and efficient travel to and from training sessions, matches, and other academy-related events.
  • Communicate transport arrangements to players, parents, and staff.
  • Able to take direct responsibility for the delivery of the service when required to do so.
  • Work a ‘shift’ pattern, to involve early morning and evening hours (including weekends).

Vehicle Management

  • Conduct regular safety checks and maintenance of academy vehicles.
  • Ensure all vehicles comply with legal and safety requirements.
  • Use specific IT software to ensure transport monitoring and other tracking functions can be carried out immediately when required.

Driver Supervision

  • Assist in supervising a team of drivers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and schedules.
  • Provide support and guidance to drivers on best practices and Academy policies.
  • Monitor driver performance and report any issues to the Academy Transport Lead.

Safety and Compliance

  • Implement health and safety protocols for all transport activities.
  • Ensure drivers comply with road safety regulations and Academy policies.
  • Report any safety concerns or incidents to the Academy Transport Lead.

Emergency Response

  • Be available to respond to transport emergencies and issues outside of regular working hours as needed.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of transport schedules, vehicle usage, and driver logs.
  • Assist in preparing reports on transport activities and performance.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to transport operations as assigned by the Academy Transport Lead.

The Person

  • Strong organisational and communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset and the ability to adapt to changing schedules.
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and safeguarding procedures related to youth travel.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Experience of Office IT systems.

Desirable

  • Experience in a transport coordination or logistics role, ideally in a youth programme, school, or sports environment.
  • Familiarity with Greater Manchester routes and traffic patterns.
  • Knowledge of transport management systems and scheduling software.
