At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. As an Access Officer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site, you'll be the first point of contact for employees, visitors, and contractors while maintaining secure access and delivering exceptional service.
About the Role
You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining secure access to a nationally important site by providing a professional, welcoming, and customer-focused gateway service. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop your career in a defence environment, gaining hands-on experience in security, access management, and customer service within one of the UK’s largest naval bases.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll be responsible for:
- Providing a professional, welcoming, customer-focused gateway service for Devonport Dockyard.
- Processing access applications, passes, permits, and renewals in line with Ministry of Defence contractual requirements.
- Managing site access requests for personnel, vehicles, contractors, and VIP visitors.
- Reviewing administrative processes to identify efficiency improvements and enhance service delivery.
- Supporting team performance by promoting a positive culture and helping achieve contractual service targets.

Shift Pattern (35 hours/week, onsite):
- Monday to Thursday: 10:00 – 18:00
- Friday: 13:00 – 18:00
Essential Requirements
Experience in the following areas is critical:
- Delivering excellent customer service in a busy, customer-facing environment.
- Proficiency in information technology systems and standard office applications.
- Accurate handling of sensitive information, with confidence and discretion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Preference for experience in administrative, security, reception, or access control roles.
Qualifications
- Security Clearance Consideration:
- Must be a UK national to achieve and maintain a Security Check (SC) clearance.
