ACCOTS Duty Consultant
Adult Critical Care Co-ordination and Transfer Consultant (East Midlands Base)
The Adult Critical Care Co-ordination and Transfer service (ACCOTS) is the dedicated, commissioned Adult Critical Care Transfer service for the Midlands Region, hosted by two acute trusts:
- University Hospital of Leicester (East Midlands)
- University Hospitals of Birmingham (West Midlands)
Our Service & Mission
ACCOTS delivers consultant-led triage, decision support, and coordination for all referrals and patients requiring:
- Specialist critical care escort
- Intensive monitoring
- Organ support
- Specialist treatment
We manage transfers for:
- Escalation of care (including time-critical and urgent cases)
- Repatriation
- Continuation of care
- Release of intensive care unit (ICU) capacity
Mission: "To deliver the highest standards of compassionate critical care to patients undergoing transfer within and from the Midlands Region."

The Opportunity
An exciting chance to join our enthusiastic, high-performing team at the East Midlands Base, based in Castle Donington.
We are seeking substantive medical consultants (or near-substantive) with a minimum 2.0 session (PA) contract (accepting extenuating circumstances may reduce session time). Sessional workforce average (SPA) will be paid pro-rata.
Key Responsibilities
As a Duty Consultant, you will work closely with Lead Transfer Nurses, Transfer Practitioners, and report to the Clinical Lead and Clinical Director, along with the ACCOTS General Manager.
Core Activities
- Triage, coordination, and decision support for all ACCOTS referrals
- Clinical supervision and delivery of care during transfers
- Teaching, training, and continued professional development
- Governance and quality improvement
- Demonstrating exemplary leadership that aligns with ACCOTS’ values and strategy
