Account Assistant
Organisation: Planet Education Networks (PEN Group) Job title: Account Assistant Salary Range: £32,000 to £40,000 per annum Employment Type: Full-time
Work Details:
- Schedule: 9am to 5pm, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
- Location: On-Site, 12th Floor, 1 Harbour Exchange, Canary Wharf, London, E14 9GE
Job Brief
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounts Assistant to support the finance team with day-to-day accounting operations. The role includes processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, performing reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and statutory reporting. We are looking for a candidate with:
- A strong understanding of accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Process purchase and sales invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Review and process employee expense claims and reimbursements.
- Maintain accurate financial records (digital and physical) in line with company policies.
- Enter and update financial transactions within accounting software and internal systems.
- Assist with:
- Accounts payable processes.
- Accounts receivable processes.
- Prepare and issue sales invoices to customers and external partners.
- Support payroll processes by reviewing and filing payroll documentation.
- Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and management accounts.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including audit preparation.
- Liaise with:
- Internal departments.
- External stakeholders to resolve finance queries.
- Carry out ad hoc finance tasks and support the wider accounts team as required.

Qualifications and Technical Skills
- Essential:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
