About Artic Building Services Artic Building Services is a leader in Hard Facilities Management (Hard FM) across London and the Home Counties. We provide a comprehensive suite of technical and engineering solutions, covering Mechanical, Electrical, and Hard FM Plant– ensuring seamless, efficient building operations for education and commercial sectors.
The Role – Account Director
This strategic and operational leadership position will oversee Hard FM services under UCL contracts, focusing on maintaining buildings to high standards—balancing efficiency, safety, compliance, and educational best practices.
Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery Leadership
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building fabric maintenance, ensuring performance meets statutory and contractual obligations.
- Lead a multidisciplinary technical team, fostering skill growth and operational excellence.

Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to SFG20, HTM, and Department for Education (DfE) regulations.
- Drive health & safety compliance and avoid reputational risk.

Performance & Financial Management
- Develop and track contractual KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
- Manage budgets, forecasting, and cost-saving initiatives for contracts valued up to £15M.

Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Act as the key contact for UCL, resolving escalations and collaboratively delivering strategic objectives.
- Uphold client trust through transparent communication and effective stakeholder engagement.

Process & Innovation
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives, prioritising sustainability, safety, and service quality.
- Lead planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programs and reactive service excellence.

- Operations & Contract Mobilisation
- Oversee transition phases for new contracts, aligning scope and resources efficiently.
Skills & Experience Required
| Area | Expectations |
|---|---|
| Contract Value | Proven ability to manage €8M+ contracts, scaling to £15M. |
| Sector Expertise | Notable experience in FM within education is highly preferred. |
| Technical Knowledge | Qualifications in engineering/building services (e.g., HNC/HND, NVQ Level 4+). |
| Safety & Compliance | Deep understanding of H & S regulations (NFHS, DfE standards) and asset lifecycle management. |
| Financial Acumen | Strong contract & budget management skills with a cost-control driven mindset. |
| Leadership | Proven track record leading cross-functional teams, blending operational and strategic acumen. |
| Stakeholder Management | Exceptional communication and negotiation skills. |
| Technology | Familiarity with CAFM (Computer-Aided Facilities Management) systems and industry best practices. |
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- IOSH/NEBOSH certification (health & safety).
- Professional membership (e.g., BIFM – Chartered Institute of Build. FM or CIBSE).
