Role
Hanbury is seeking an ambitious Account Manager with a passion for media relations, communications, and high-impact campaigns. The ideal candidate will bring 2-3 years of professional experience, often in government press offices, newsrooms, or in-house roles, along with proven success in securing high-profile media coverage for clients. This position requires strong organisation skills, the ability to develop and execute strategies across varied platforms, and the drive to take ownership during our period of rapid growth.
Our team includes passionate professionals, from former national journalists to Special Advisers and in-house media experts. Together, we deliver outstanding results for industry-leading businesses across the UK and worldwide.
About You
Hanbury operates across the entire communications spectrum, encompassing reputation management, campaigns, politics, and policy. As such, we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including those with experience in:
- Media relations, with a keen ability to secure high-quality coverage and build journalist connections.
- Government press offices, newsrooms, or in-house roles. Agency experience is an advantage.
- Public and crisis communications, with a preference for proactive strategies that drive engagement.
- Project management involving tight deadlines, collaborative team environments, and stakeholder liaison.
- Writing and verbal communication, delivering clear, concise, and influential messaging.
- Leadership and mentorship, sharing expertise with junior colleagues in a supportive environment.
- Diverse workplaces, with a proactive, inclusive, and risk-aware approach to collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Account Deliverables
- Work closely with senior colleagues to develop and implement media plans targeting national, regional, and trade media.
- Independently secure coverage while building and maintaining journalistic relationships.
- Manage proactive press outreach and reactive crisis response for clients.
Client Management
- Act as the primary client contact within your portfolio, demonstrating organisational skills and conflict resolution.
- Regularly add value to accounting relationships while ensuring client excellence.
- Develop expertise by staying informed about key industry sectors and client preferences.
Business Development
- Contribute to developing new business proposals, enhancing skills in customer intelligence and commercial strategy.
- Identify and pitch upselling opportunities to existing clients.
- Strengthen presentation and influencing skills through active participation in pitches.
Leadership & Development
- Provide regular updates to account leads on deliverables and timelines.
- Share sector insights and attend external events to build internal expertise.
- Mentor junior colleagues in managing accounts, with a focus on delegation, motivation, and professional growth.
