Account Manager - Life Science Research (Field-based | Academic Research Customers)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a high-performing sales team covering London — one of the organisation’s most strategically important territories. In this field-based role, you will partner closely with academic research institutions, supporting their scientific objectives through tailored life science workflows and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver revenue performance across the London territory, executing strategic business plans at departmental and institutional level.
  • Identify, understand, and translate customer research goals into aligned technical and commercial solutions.
  • Manage the full sales cycle, including:
    • Product demonstrations
    • Technical discussions
    • Customer training
    • Tender processes
    • Contract negotiations
    • Deal closure
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships, supporting accounts throughout the full product lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain strong market awareness, covering:
    • Life science technology trends
    • Competitive landscape
    • Emerging scientific applications
  • Provide accurate weekly and monthly sales forecasts and maintain up-to-date activity records in the CRM system.
  • Plan and manage weekly field activities, ensuring efficient travel across the London territory.

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (a PhD and/or hands-on laboratory experience is highly advantageous).
  • Proven experience in sales, ideally in:
    • Life science sales (complex sales cycles preferred)
    • Strategic account management
    • Ideally exposure to capital equipment or a diagnostics sales background.

Desirable Qualities

  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute strategic business plans with a high level of autonomy.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable with prioritising in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 80% field-based) with a base in the London commutable zone.

Consideration for New Entrants

The company is also open to considering more junior candidates with limited sales experience who are looking to develop their career within a commercially focused role.
