Total Tax Accountants is a leading accountancy firm based in High Wycombe, serving a diverse range of individual and business clients. The firm combines the capacity to handle complex and large-scale accounting needs with a personalised, relationship-focused approach. Core services include self-employment accounts, property accounts, business accounts management, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, company formation, corporation tax, and self-assessment.

Role Description

The Accountant will work on-site in High Wycombe in a full-time capacity, supporting a broad portfolio of clients with their accounting and tax needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements
  • Managing bookkeeping
  • Processing payroll
  • Handling VAT returns and tax computations
  • Assisting with self-employment and property accounts
  • Business accounts management
  • Corporation tax
  • Self-assessment filings

The Accountant will communicate directly with clients to understand their specific requirements, provide clear explanations of financial information, and recommend compliant, efficient solutions. The position also requires:

Qualifications

  • Strong technical accounting skills, including preparation of financial statements, management accounts, and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in tax-related work such as self-assessment, corporation tax, VAT returns, and payroll processing.
  • Experience with bookkeeping and use of accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero or similar tools).
  • Client service skills, including clear written and verbal communication, relationship management, and a personalized, solution-focused approach.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and confidence working with deadlines.
  • Relevant professional qualification or progress toward one (e.g., AAT, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent), or substantial practical experience in an accounting practice.
  • Ability to work on-site in High Wycombe, collaborate effectively with the team, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with UK accounting and tax regulations; prior experience in a practice environment is highly beneficial.
