What You’ll Do
As Accountant at Caterpillar Skinningrove, you’ll:
- Shape and support the accounting function at our ** Skinningrove facility**, maintaining financial integrity while fostering growth.
- Report directly to the Accounting Manager, playing a critical role in decision-making aligned with Caterpillar’s strategic goals.
- Develop expertise across a broad spectrum of accounting tasks while understanding Caterpillar’s business model and industry nuances.
Core Responsibilities
✔ Expand business acumen – Deepen knowledge of Caterpillar’s accounting systems, practices, and procedures aligned with its distinctive business logic.
✔ Perform a Wide Range of Accounting Duties:
- Review clerical input, support entry-level accountants, and mentor salaried staff for accuracy and growth.
- Generate actionable reports, provide financial commentary, and establish sound financial workflows.
- Analyze, validate, and interpret financial data to guide decision-making processes.
- Develop and revise forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses based on evolving business conditions.

✔ Cost & Decision Support
- Lead normals and machine rate development, enabling precise internal rate of return (IRR) assessments and standard cost analyses.
- Support inventory accounting and revisions, aligning costs with precision and sustainability goals.
✔ Financial Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare journal entries, financial statements, trend analyses, and reconciliations.
- Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation, upholding stringent controls.
- Oversee intercompany transactions and cost monitoring for manufacturing lines.
✔ Interprofessional Collaboration
- Interface with multi-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior authorities to enhance coordination and operational efficiency.
✔ Complex Problem-Solving
- Analyze discrepancies between forecasts and actual performance across multiple entities.
- Evaluate capital asset justifications, product costing trends, and target cost control.
- Oversee sales reporting, ensure accuracy of COGS, and drive research-based valuation accuracy.
What You’ll Bring with You
Essential Requirements
- A degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent experience).
- Strong employment experience within finance roles—formed by quality education and hands-on practicality.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Detailed and critical accuracy – Embracing precision in every task.
- Analytical rigor – Navigating complex business issues and turning insights into actionable strategies.
- Clarity in communication – Bringing transparency to diverse audiences across reports, relational, and strategic feedback.

Preferred Qualifications
- CIMA or ACCA qualification.
- Experience within manufacturing accountancy roles—familiarity with costing, supply chain logistics, or budgeting models is a bonus.
- Proactive independence – Taking organized initiative, and accountable ownership to completion.
